Alimento para mascotas: La Importancia de Garantizar su Inocuidad y Calidad Nutricional

Para ser considerados una verdadera fuente de nutrición, los alimentos para mascotas deben cumplir con requisitos fundamentales. Deben ser completos y balanceados, lo que significa que deben contener todos los nutrientes esenciales (proteínas, grasas, carbohidratos, vitaminas y minerales) que una mascota requiere en las cantidades adecuadas y según su etapa de vida (cachorros, adultos, mascotas mayores) o condición fisiológica como la gestación, lactancia, incremento o disminución de su actividad física, entre otros).

Junto con la incorporación de nuevos ingredientes surge también la necesidad de garantizar su inocuidad, una propiedad igual de relevante que a menudo pasa desapercibida para los tutores. La inocuidad se define como la garantía de que los alimentos no causarán daños al consumidor cuando se preparen y/o consuman de acuerdo con su uso previsto. 🐾

Lo anterior implica que el alimento esté libre de peligros físicos, como objetos extraños que puedan lesionar a nuestras mascotas, químicos, como pesticidas, micotoxinas, compuestos tóxicos o excesos de nutrientes que puedan ser perjudiciales para su salud; y peligros microbiológicos, como la contaminación por virus, parásitos o bacterias que a simple vista son indetectables, pero cuya ingestión puede tener consecuencias graves.
